A waterlogged pitch at Meadowbank meant that Edinburgh City’s game was off, so a quick scan of the fixtures was required and Palmerston Park was chosen.
The match itself turned out to be poor offering but the stadium…what a gem!
Everything that Recreation Park gets wrong (#12) Palmerston Park gets right. The old and new fit together in the most attractive way. The old main stand looks like something designed by 1980s Subbuteo. The huge terracing is a thing of beauty. A real blast from the past. Huge, traditional floodlights. Just perfect. Without doubt our favourite ground so far.
Friendly stewards, fun club mascot, no annoying halftime music and Under-16s free entry (for this match) – top marks to the Doonhamers!
As for the match, Falkirk proved too strong for QOS with goals scored from a free-kick and a penalty giving them the win.
So, although QOS didn’t win on the pitch they certainly did off it. We’ll be back, that’s for sure.
Stadium – 9 out of 10 – maybe the sunshine had something to do with it but we really like Palmerston Park!
Adults – £16, Under-16s – Free

Final Score: Queen of the South 0-2 Falkirk
Glad you enjoyed your trip to Palmerston, also more than I happened to, as I was a home supporter. Can I suggest that on your next visit to sit in the subbuteo-styled main stand. I now sit there, having viewed from both the East Stand and the terracing over the years. The view is so much higher up than in the East Stand and you get a better view of the match. Added one of my friend’s independent Queens fans website, “The Only Team in the Bible”, where you will find decent match reports and fun stuff.

Thanks for the comment, Russel. Yes, a disappointing day on the pitch. I expected more from QOS but the Falkirk defence were well organised.
We did originally start in the main stand but one of the stewards was obsessed with my camera (came and spoke to me twice despite me not using it once in that time), convinced I was there to take pictures for the ‘press’. He was pleasant and polite but we moved to enjoy the game without every move of mine being reviewed. I take photos at all games purely as a record of our visits, no financial gain involved.
Anyway, really impressed by the set up at QOS. We will be back again…hopefully with a better result for the home team!
